Marine Management Guides

A guide, prepared on a state-by-state basis that outlines, in plain English, the legal and administrative arrangements for management of the State and contiguous Commonwealth oceans. The guide also includes advice on best practice implementation of current law and policy. The idea is based on the successful guide produced by EDS for New Zealand, Sustainable Seas: Managing the Marine Environment.

The guide provides a capacity building tool for councils, community groups, agriculturalists and project developers on the coast and off-shore.

The guide provides an understanding of the environmental decision process which:

  • Facilitates engagement by the community and business in a government process
  • Can streamline the early project development process as developers are more aware of the existing constraints and risks
  • Assists in protection of the natural environment by outlining best practice project implementation and making it easier for the community to be involved in the decision process
